Happy New Year everyone!

Primary 4/5 are so excited to be back at Kirklandneuk on Ard Road. We are loving our "new" school. On the first day back we couldn't believe our luck when we got a tour of the school. Our favourite things about the new school are: our new smartboard, trays under our desks, breakout space and our fancy toilets!

Things are always busy in Primary 4/5 but we are particularly busy just now with learning about our new topic "Titanic." This is a very special year to be learning about Titanic because in April it is officially the 100th anniversary of the start of Titanic's maiden voyage (10th April) and her unfortunate sinking (early hours of 15th April). As well as learning some fascinating facts about Titanic, we are also going to be transforming our classroom to learn what it was like to be a passenger on Titanic.

Christmas in P4/5

In Primary 4/5 this term we have been extremely busy!!! One of the highlights of this term was being set up with schools in other countries through E-Twinning in a project called "School Differences." We are now friends with children in Spain, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Croatia and Greece. It was so exciting to receive Christmas cards through the post from our "international friends" and to send them Christmas greetings from Kirklandneuk.

As the festive period has arrived we were busy rehearsing for our Christmas concert performance of "Winter Wonderland." We hope you were able to make any the Christmas concerts to see us perform. We had so much fun!

Our favourite part of this term was designing and creating outfits with Room 11 for a "Trashion Show." This was part of our Enterprise topic. We collected lots of recyclable items e.g magazines/newspapers, bottle tops, sweet wrappers and much more to create outfits that London Fashion Week would have been envious of. On Monday 12th December we showcased our catwalk of outfits using ourselves as the models. It was such a fantastic morning and we are very proud of how well we did. Even Mrs Maxwell and Miss Fulton got in on the act and dressed up in outfits made of newspaper. We now know that recycling is so important and to save our planet we have to "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle."

Primary 4/5 cannot wait to return back to our building at Ard Road. We have been busy packing for weeks.

Welcome to Primary 4/5. We have had a fantastic start to the new term. Our new teacher is called Mrs Maxwell and we also have a teacher called Mrs Boyce helping to teach us. In Primary 4/5 we now have lots of responsibilities as we are in the upper school. We are very lucky to have super Pupil Council, Eco, Rights Respecting Schools and Anti Bullying representatives.

Primary 4/5 have been working hard in all areas of the curriculum but we are particularly enjoying our new topic which is "France." We have been learning about different places in France and comparing the similarities and differences between France and Scotland. This week we are performing solo talks on a famous French person.

We are so excited about all the things we have coming up this term.

Term 4

We all enjoyed our Spring Break. Since coming back we have performed our class assembly, which was in Trinity Church. We were all a little nervous but it went really well and we all enjoyed doing it!

We have had lots of holidays this term, but we are still working hard. We have started our new enterprise topic, we are organising and hosting the school talent show this year! We are all really excited and are working hard in our teams to make sure it is a success. We are hoping to have a very exciting celebrity panel, and can't wait to see all the acts!

As well as starting our enterprise topic we have also started our new science topic, which is really interesting. We are looking at living things and life processes. We have learned lots of new things already but have a lot more still to learn.

PE is also exciting for us this term. All the P5's are going swimming and learning lots of new techniques. The P4's are taking part in Just Dance programme, and we are putting together a mini routine, which is great fun!

We are all enjoying this term!

End of Term 3

We all enjoyed our Medieval Castles Topic and our open evening was a success. Our classroom really transformed. We are all looking forward to our Spring Break, and getting ready for leading the Easter Assembly in the church.

Joyning the Learning Topic

We are all really enjoying our new topic, and our classroom is beginning to really transform! We have been learning lots of interesting things and we are using all our knowledge to help us transform our classroom with lots of different work! We have got a really busy month coming up, we are taking part in lots of different things throughout the school. It is fair-trade fortnight and we be doing work on the different aspects of fair-trade, we have also got our sponsored walk coming up soon, this will help keep us nice and healthy as well as help raise money for charity.
We are really looking forward to our open evening and cant wait for all our parents, family and friends to see our classroom and all the hard work we have been doing! We will make sure we have plenty of games and activities for everyone to see!

Term 3

We all had a nice Christmas, and glad to be back and starting our new term. We have finished our China topic, which was great fun! Our class dragon is now going to be displayed in the foyer for everyone to see! We have also just finished our science topic - Solids, Liquids and Gases, which was a lot of fun and very interesting! Our last couple of experiments were great fun. We made rockets that we lauched. We mixed a solid and liquid together to create a gas which lauched our rockets!

We are all very excited to have started our new topic now, It is very interesting and looks like it will be a lot of fun! We are all getting ready to transform our classroom (with paint shirts at the ready!) We will be working very hard to have it all ready for our Open evening in March where our family and friends can come along to see all our work displayed around the classroom. We have been working in different groups and carrying out lots of different tasks in order to find out as much as we can about the topic, we have also started reading our class novel, which is by one of our favourite authors!

This is going to be a very fun and interesting topic!

Primary 4/5

We have been very busy this month! We have been learning more about our China topic, it has been great fun! We have made mini dragons for around our class and we are going make a large one for our wall, we are all really looking forward to doing that! We have also been learning about Endangered Animals that are native to China, we have found this part of the topic very interesting and we have decided we would like to share our knowledge with other people so we are going to display our posters around the school for everyone else to see and to help them become more aware of the animals that are endangered.

We have also had fun in maths this month as we have been using maps of China to plot different places and then we created directions for pair partner to follow, this has helped us with our compass points in a fun way!

As Christmas is near we will soon be learning our song that we are going to do for the Christmas Concert, this will be fun and we cant wait to perform at the concert! We will also be learning more about China and will learn how to write letters and numbers in Chinese! This has been a great topic and we don't want it to end!

Primary 4/5

We have settled into our new school well and have had a fun first couple of weeks in our 2nd term. We finished off our Commonwealth Games topic by organising and hosting a Commonwealth Games day for P3. This was great fun and the day was a great success! Primary 3 took part in all the events which included 3 legged race, long jump, bean bag race, hurdles, ten pin bowling, relay race, hoop shooting. We had a snack and presentation of all the winners from the different events. It was a great day and way to finish off our topic! We have learned a lot during this topic about the different countries which are part of the Commonwealth as well as where they are in the world, and we will be doing a solo talk on the country which we have researched in detail.

We are going to be busy again this term. We have just started our new topic on China, this has been interesting so far and we look forward to learning more about it and completing losts of different activities including completing arts and crafts as well as making and sampling food from china!

In the lead up to Christmas we will be practising our Christmas song for the school show and completing our Christmas Craft activity for the Christmas Fayre!

New Terrm in P4/5

We have all been very busy since returning to school in August. We have all settled in well and are enjoying our new class! Since the start of term we have doing been lots of different things. Learning about The Birth of Krishna, as part of the Hinduism religion, we have also been doing work on our science topic which was sound, and we looked at vibration and how sound travels. This was interesting and we used lots of different instruments while doing this. We are currently working on our topic of the Commonwealth Games!

Purple Day

A busy day!

On Wednesday 3rd June a representative from Scottish Power came to school to teach the children about electricity safety. They learnt about the dangers of fishing or flying kites near overheard wires, keeping out of substations and away from pylons, not to touch sockets or switches with wet hands and lots of other ways to keep safe. At the end there was a quiz which Olivia won. Well done! More information can be found at www.powerwise.org.uk

In the afternoon the school nurse came to tell the children how to take care in the sun. They were advised to
- always wear sun cream and reapply it regularly
- wear a sun hat and sun glasses
- drink plenty of water
- cover their shoulders with a tee shirt when the sun is strong
- stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
- wear sandals or flip flops on the hot sand or grass
- use an umbrella when the sun is very strong
The class are now making a display about staying safe in the sun.

Kirky's Got Talent!

Several children auditioned to represent Primary 4/5 in Kirky's got Talent. By an overwhelming majority, Darren and Declan were chosen as our class's entry. Although they did not win, they did extremely well and gained a Highly Commended Certificate. Well done Darren and Declan!

Electricity

This term Primary 4/5 has been learning about electricity. They used kits to investigate how to make a circuit and then used different components to show energy conversions. Primary 4 went on to investigate insulators and conductors.

Easter Assembly

On 3rd of April all the pupils and staff went along to Renfrew Trinity Church to celebate their Easter Assembly. The assembly was led by Primary 4/5 who told the Easter story through drama and music. The pupils had worked very hard and everyone enjoyed the assembly.

Excellent behaviour!

Most children in Primary 4/5 received excellent behaviour awards from Mrs Wieland this week for excellent behaviour throughout term 3. Keep it up next term!
All children in the class were able to attend the end of term reward for good behaviour during term 3. Well done!

KIRKYSPOOK!

This term Primary 4/5 have taken part in a very successful Joyning the Learning topic. They spent several weeks turning their classroom into the Great Hall at Kirkyspook! The children invented spells, drew maps, designed broomsticks to mention just a few. They also designed suits of armour and each helped create a large piece of furniture. The Open Evening was enjoyed by all those who attended and parents were impressed by the amount and quality of work their children had achieved. The children are looking forward to their next Joyning the Learning topic!

Planting Trees

On Friday 6th March the class all took part in gardening with Starling Learning. After touring the playground to see the previous work undertaken, they planted trees near the infant playground. We are hoping the trees will be left to grow to maturity.

Comic Relief

On Friday 13th March everyone wore red to support Comic Relief. Although there was no charge the school will be sending a donation from our sponsored skipathon which took place week beginning 9th March. Primary 4/5 have also chosen Comic Relief to be the charity their Assembly collection goes to on 3rd April.

This term Primary 4/5 have continued to enjoy the Go for Bronze music programme and have been learning more about rhythm and beat, musical notation and the stave through games, rhymes and songs.

Scottish Parliament Visitor

On Wednesday 4th February, Mairead Mackechnie visited Primary 4/5 to give a presentation about the Scottish Parliament. After the presentation the pupils were grouped into parties. Once they had chosen their leader, they had to make up their party manifesto. Each leader then presented their manifesto to the class. The class had a chance to vote for the party they felt had the best manifesto. The School Party won by a large majority.

Scottish Parliament

Primary 4/5 have been been learning about the Scottish Parliament. On Friday 16th January they visited the parliament building in Edinburgh where they were given a guided tour. The children all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and even met an MSP - Robin Harper!

Technology

Primary 4/5 looked at a variety of bats and balls. They then designed bats in pairs. Once they were happy with the designs, they made their bats using junk. They then tested their bats and modified their designs where necessary.
