Welcome Back!

Welcome back, to what has already been a busy and exciting start to the new session! We have all now settled well in to our new surroundings upstairs, in Room 13. Already, we have had a wonderful start to the new term, having been awarded Best Behaved Class almost every week, so we are setting an excellent example to all the younger boys and girls in the school and, indeed, to our neighbouring classes upstairs. Adding to our great record so far, we were also crowned with the “Tidy Cloakroom of the Week” award, which we displayed with pride on our classroom door. So we’re focussed now, more than ever, to keep up the great effort and continue to set a good example to the rest of the school.

In Room 13, we are proud to be good team players, so we always work hard to make sure we help each other and learn together. It is this team spirit which has helped us to achieve as much as we have, so early in the year. As well as being great team players, we likewise love to celebrate the success of individual learners in the class, who have shown particular enthusiasm and determination, in all their pursuits throughout the week. So, each week one pupil is awarded with the honour of being “Pupil of the Week”. With there being so many motivated and hard-working learners in Room 13, it has often been very tricky to decide upon one single pupil who should receive this award. At the time of this Newsletter “going to press”, we have had seven Pupils of the Week:

Week 1: Marcus Macaulay    Week 2: Carla Smythe
Week 3: Clark Gentles
Week 4: Callum Downie       Week 5: Emma Crawford
Week 6: Aiden Butler            Week 7: Kaci Wright

Very well done to all our Pupils of the Week! Keep checking the school website http://www.kirklandneuk.renfrewshire.sch.uk/ each week to find out who else has earned the highly sought-after award!

This term, we have been exploring a number of new and exciting topics. Firstly, we focussed on Christianity and we looked at some of the different types of Christian churches we have in our local area. We learned about the features of these very special buildings and researched how churches open-up to the community and provide different things for people to do.

Following our Learning Journey through the Christian church, we then turned our attention to the sciences and learned all about Biodiversity, finding out about the different living things that share our planet. One of our highlights from this topic was using the internet to conduct our own research, creating a fact sheet about the different groups of invertebrates. Our favourite activity, though, was when we all went out into the school grounds, to conduct our own real research, using magnifying glasses and special Bug Catchers, to find out how many different types of living things there are in Kirklandneuk! Keep your eyes peeled for the results of our research, here on our Blog!

Our most recent topic is The Media, where we have been learning about how TV, radio, magazines, the internet and so on, can be used to share ideas with others; as well as how it influences people in society. We look forward to learning more about The Media, as we continue through the term! Well, that’s all from us at the moment, but stay tuned for more!
